Did you navigate IN the Kelp or keep to the edge to avoid kelp in the intake?

I went IN the kelp.

How do you avoid getting kelp in the intake when you go into the beds? Any special kelp bed navigational tips?

There are two ways to do it:
1) when your jetski is close to the kelp pad, you stop the engine and let your jetski drift in. find the right spot, use string and tie it onto the kelp then you can start fishing
2) same as kayak fishing, paddle in and out spot to spot it's more easy and faster. One important thing is you have to stop the engine before you go in if not you will be in trouble
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR TRIP!

Would a single paddle work? I bought one that telescopes similar to this one:
