3\12\11 Surf Perch Fishing at Sunset

I took two days off on Friday and Saturday, Friday I went to the Fred Hall show. It was interesting, especially the seminars on lowrance, Shimano and Fin-Nor. If anyone that hasn't gone to this show, you should see it, it's really helpful. On Saturday, supposedly me and my kids would go jetskifishing unfortunately the tsunami incident at Japan happened. It made me scared and couple of the beaches were closed. We decided to go surf fishing on evening, got ready at 3:30 pm and all the way to Malibu Beach. Around 4:30 we got there, and started fishing, my son's 2nd cast caught a surf perch. It must of ment a good sign and here are the pictures:

After that we fished for a couple of hours and nothing happened. Finally I got one bite but it was small.

We all couldn't catch anything, soon it turned dark and called it "A Day." Today was windy and freezing cold.
WHAT A NICE SUNSET!

it was probably safer to be on a jetski than on the surf! you can't go anywhere when all of a sudden the water raises a few feet! but if you were on a boat or jetski out in the water, you probably ride over it like a swell..

I try hitting up sunset beach twice a month, just to get out there. My last catch was a 21-7/8" Hali.
Just couldn't stretch that tail any longer.

When you catch a halibut on surf, you are suppose to be happy but once you find out it's not the legal size. You feel really dissappointed, especially missing a quarter inch. A year ago I caught a halibut on surf at Malibu, it was short 2 inches, once I found out I felt so unhappy but I turned left and right no one was there and I still took it home to have a good dinner. Please don't let DFG know. ;) By the way where do you go for surf fishing?

Luckily i work in Newport Beach but live in Norwalk. Therefore , I am able to fish everywhere from Newport Harbor to Sunset Beach. I am currently trying out the Long Beach area. I am hoping to pick up a ski before the summer starts so I can follow boiling fish. I want to take my wife as well. Maybe that jet rib at dockitjet.com
