Got the kids off to school, the wife to work and let my lone customer of the day know that I was "sick."
Launched Oceanside 9AM, got the $5 scoop and headed north to the barn. No wind and just a little chop. Went slow in order to save the bait and arrived at the kelp in 15 minutes.
The kelp was pretty broken up. Boats, including 3 half-day were gathered around a couple of larger patches. I didn't see anything come over the rails except a few small bass.
Tied up to some kelp several times and drifted through. Nothing on the live bait. 1 small sandbass on the warbait with some stink on it.
Near 12:00 I drifted close to a boat with several anglers who were anchored on 40 ft. They were catching bass, mostly small. My bait was raked HARD but no hook up.
Headed home. Guess I'll have hamburgers tonight.
