Dumb question; was your engine running when you were in the kelp?

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust (rear exit)? Check the exhaust pipe if its elevated, should be higher than water level.

Wow... really. I'd like to know more about this. Sold my Kawi 12F but still have my 15F.
Only thing I was watching out for was the possible corrosion in water line fitting (later updated by kawasaki... but I have yet to update mine).

I was weary of exhaust water backflow in the case of the ski getting towed (if need be)... but never from just drifting.

Perhaps a rubber flap might help prevent this?

Thats what we ended up doing (rubber flap) Have not had the same problem since. I would like to come up with a better way of doing it but have not found anything yet. Will probably have to invent my own

Do you have pics of your flap you can put up?

Now I understand why this is an issue; that exhaust port is certainly not engineer for drifting. It looks like your fix works anyway. Honda has the port underneath kind of right above the intake grate so it is not an issue for me.
