Barometric Pressure & Fishing

Postby HawaiianShorts » Mon Mar 14, 2011 10:53 pm

Here's an interesting article about barometric pressure and fishing from Boating Magazine:

"The fast and furious bite before the storm hits, followed by clearing skies and widespread lockjaw. Such are the nuances of fishing through springtime cold fronts. They can’t be avoided, but watching the barometer provides clues for finding fish on the move. Use the normal barometric reading of 30 inches as a baseline for these tactics."

Some of us don't get to pick our days fishing so you go when the weather allows and when you can but there is much to be said about this article.

Freshwater bass fishing is extremely affected by this but I believe bay fishing and coastal fishing also is highly affected by pressure.

Friday may be a good day to fish according to this. Provided the weather holds. I might give it a go in the AM. I have a couple hours.

I believe the lower barometric pressure gives a better bite, but sometimes you just don't know unless you go.
