Best skis out there

Postby Douby » Thu Jan 05, 2012 5:29 pm

I know that everyone mostly prefers the yamaha fx, but what else is is good. I'm looking for stability (number one for catching big fish) and reliability is right behind that making trips out 10,20 miles. I'm about to make my purchase very soon and I have found seadoos also for good deals. I just don't want sc/Tc cause of gas an reliability.
But would like more info on seadoos stability/reliability from the experienced again.
Thanks

I have a biased opinion and lean towards Yamaha FX series for their length, stability, and reliability. 2002-2008 FX series skis use the MR1 motor and have a 10,100 rpm red-line and as long as you properly maintain them, they will last you a long long time.

I am not very familiar with the GTX series of Sea-Doo, but they seem to have a good track record too.

Looks like a fx will be the ticket. Now just have to find one.

This is the best time to buy one, as they are not in demand and can sometimes scoop them up cheap.

Whether it's the FX140 (140hp) or the FX HO (160hp), both are reliable machines. first body style was 2002-2005 then second gen (same hull and everything, just different front plastics) 2005-2008. In 2009 they introduced the FX HO with the 1.8 liter motor, that will fetch a pretty penny still as the hull is also Nano Excel instead of fiberglass.

I think you are fine with either brands. They are both very reliable and great for fishing. Now it comes down to what kind of deals you find and what conditions the jetski is in.

With that said, I prefer a seadoo, at least my rxt, over a fx ho or sho because the Yamaha sounds like an electric motor. I like the grunt and motorcycle engine sound my seadoo makes. 8-)

This will always end up being a Ford vs. Chevy of the PWC world. LOL

Since I am the one that loves to stir the pot, here's a little friendly comparison of the SHO and the RXT-260. To think, the SHO only comes with 210 or so HP so it's about 50hp less than the Sea-Doo yet out performs it. I like that... :D

Well me and my Fishing buddy just picked up our 2004 yamaha fx ho crusiers today, they have a few hours on them, but these things look brand new inside. Been well taken care of. Test drove them both today and the can scoote across the water got up to 58-60 fast!
Happy with purchase now time to rig them.
