Channel Islands

Postby Jake » Thu Jan 12, 2012 10:03 am

Hey guys, I've done quite a bit off fishing off my jet ski on lakes but I’m looking to move into the big leagues. I'm planning on doing trips to the Channel Islands. Found this site trying to do research on what to expect and what kind of gear to bring. Looking to do some diving, spear fishing, camping and fishing on the Channel Islands. I'm also thinking about taking my jet ski into the Klamath and Sacramento rivers for salmon. If anyone has any experience with these sorts of things I’d love to hear from you.

Alanhihand and Kieferfish fishes Channel Islands quite often. There's a lot of quality rockfish in the area, not to mention halibut and seabass! To get to CI, closest launch is from Oxnard. It's about 15 miles to the west end of the island. Not very far at all.. however, the channel gets to 4000ft! needless to say, it gets a bit rough. you should definitely look at the forecast before heading out that way. Ones you get to the island, it's relatively shallow. Last time I went out with Kieferfish, we were fishing the bottom for rockfish. I ended up with a variety of meat!

I'm not sure if you can actually step on the island. Last I heard, jetskis are to remain at least 1 mile from land. You might want to check DFG website for this one.
