First time fishing at Diamond Valley

Postby alanhighhand » Tue Sep 27, 2011 4:35 pm

I woke up at 4:30 a.m. ate my breakfast, and then headed out. When I got they had a long line waiting for entry. It was unbelievable during the weekday! So busy! When I arrived it was 6:30 a.m. My friend already rented a boat, he was waiting for me at the docks. It was a nice boat, had a trolling motor, a fish finder, and a live well tank. It cost $120 for a whole day, but we had a coupon discount 25% off. So at that moment I planned to go for Largemouth Bass, but my friend said," why don't we go for striper ?" We all agreed. We started fishing. My friends used blood worms. I used plastics, crankbait, and top water jig nothing happened. We saw boats next to us catching fish. We got mad!!! Then I asked what they used. They said sardine, we only had anchovies so we used them, twenty minute later I saw a my rod bouncing. FISH ON!!!!!!!! It kept taking my line out, finally I got it on my boat. I got my first striper, it was 3 pound. The boat next to us, kept catching fish, my friend got pissed. We went back to the mariner to get some sardine, but unfortunately they didn't have sardines. Wasted about 40 minutes, we went back to the previous spot. Most of the anglers already left. Suddenly a new boat came, the first cast, they caught a 9 to 10 pounder. It wasn't even 5 minutes! We asked the guy what he used on his bait. He said sardine, he was very generous. He gave us a small pack of sardines. We all hooked the baits and casted. Within 15 minutes, my line started screaming. FISH ON! I could feel it was a big one, after a while, I reeled it in. It was humongous! One of the biggest stripers I ever caught in my life. In the end we weighed it and it was 8 pounds.

Ya but the $120 bassboat for for a whole day is a good deal if you split it 2-3 ways.

Nice stripper, don't you just love the sound of a spinning reel getting line pulled off. I use baitcasters now but miss my old spinning reels when I hear that sound.

Hearing the sound of the spinning reel getting the line pulled off makes it very exciting. I believe all anglers love that sound.
