First time to Catalina Island with my jetski

Postby alanhighhand » Fri Jul 01, 2011 9:24 am

Me and my son launched out from Davies Launch Ramp at 6:30 a.m. We went out and saw the condition really nice, blue sky, and nice waves all the way to Catalina took us an hour. Of course we would see dolphins and played around with them. Finally, we got to the spot and saw 3 private boats and fished at the east side bank. We caught some small mackeral, calico bass, and sand dab. Not much action and I went outside 3 miles to seek rockfish. My fishfinder showed me a lot of fish at the bottom so I dropped my squid down and had some nibbles. So I decided to go back to the previous spot and ask the guys what they caught they say 1 private boat caught yellowtails other than that it was slow. I see a party boat come in and see them look for a good spot moving around everywhere. Around 10:30 a.m. I took my son to go to Avalon showing him this is the place I took your mom on our honeymoon. So we decided to go home after that, on the way there my GPS shortage out. I found out my battery went out luckily I brought my 2nd battery. Happy home. Past these couple weeks I went to 2 island my personal experience I would prefer Channel Island it's a really natural island no people live there.

Alan you are my hero!

Riding double to Catalina without a wingman and your battery goes dead. Ho-hum. Just another day on the water!

Keep the fishing and videos coming.

I think Alans moving to hawaii soon and go after the marlins and tunas. The way he's going, there won't be anymore places to go for him or fish to catch!

Allan,

How did you do on fuel to and from Catalina?
Did you bring extra fuel with you? did you fuel up there, or did you make it there and back on a single tank?
Once you got to the island, how much riding around did you do?

Hi Joe! I went to Catalina on one single tank, go to my spots and Avalon back to the launch ramp exactly 18 gallons on my jetski. Once I was close to the brick wall, my jetski started to beep. I also brought 5 gallons in case something happens. One thing I like about my jetski is when I go on long runs it can go on cruise control mode to save me a lot of work.

Is anyone going fishing on the 4th of July? When I come back from work if I not tired I'll launch at Davies ramp. This time I will head to Huntington flat to kill barracudas and sand bass. I have to let those cudas know that I'm coming.
