Fishing at Dana Point 11/15/11

Postby alanhighhand » Tue Nov 15, 2011 6:58 pm

I arrived at Dana Point and started setting up my gears for fishing. Mike came a little later, so I told him I would go first. I launched out at 8:45 a.m. and headed straight to the kelp pads. Awhile later Mike came, I told him to go to the right side of me. As soon as I dropped my lure, it was FISH ON! after I caught 3, I saw Mike FISH ON! I saw him keep on reeling the line and the fish got stuck inside the kelp pad. I told him to take his time and he tried a couple of minutes, unfortunately the fish got lost. So he moved to the left side of me, still fishing. My spot was a honeyhole, I got over limit and tried to go out and fish for halibut but I ran out of bait. After that, I went to MIke and gave him 2 sheepheads and told him to fish my spot. After I told him to go to the spot, his jetski couldn't start, so I waited for him about a couple of minutes, finally he found out the problem. His jetski's battery was loosened then he fixed it and no problem. Then, I left to go wash my jetski. On the way home, a policeman pulled me at the side, flashing lights. OMG!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DID I DO WRONG?!?!!? Then the police asked me for driver license, car insurance, and registration for trailer. I gave him all of it, the reason he stopped me was because I went to the 2nd speed line, I wasn't suppose to when I have a trailer. Then he asked me, "How long did you have this jetski?" I said, "1 year." He gave me a warning and didn't give me a ticket. I replied," Yes sir! and thank you." I had a good fishing trip and a very nice policeman. :D :D :D Btw, I had a great time fishing with Mike.

On my next free day, I want to join you. How do you cook the fish? Steam?

I think you could drive in the second lane to pass a car. I always drive in the first lane because I drive 60mph with the trailer. Thanks for the heads up, Alan!

Great fishing trip! Thanks so much for all your help and pointers Alan. Without your help I would never have known how to catch sheepheads. Was a great experience. I also know now why it is so important to go along with someone else out on open waters. This time it was a loose screw for the battery but if it was worse and I was by myself it could have been a difficult situation. Glad to hear that you only got a warning and not a ticket. To be honest when I bought my Jet Ski it was registered, but my trailer had some issues and is not registered. Hope I do not get into trouble later for that. Thanks again Alan for all your help/imformation! :D

I thought you can drive the first 2 lanes (the slow lanes).

Tried one yesterday, it was actually good. Very mild fish taste...going to cook it differently soon. Learn some ways of cooking it online so going to try each one out.
