Fishing at Dana Point 11/22/11

Postby alanhighhand » Tue Nov 22, 2011 4:39 pm

This week my children has no school. So I brought my son with me to go fishing today. Launching at 8:30 a.m. a little bit jumpy, blue sky, water temperature was 61 degrees. We went to the first spot, fished for an hour, my son caught three and I caught one sheephead. Then we went to the second spot, not even five minutes it was fish-on! caught a giant sheephead. My son got a fish-on too. 2 hours later, we counted the fish and there was 9 sheepheads so I told my son "If anyone of us catches one fish, we can go home." He replied, "Okay." Both of us had a fish-on, reeled it up and both was female about 14 inches. So I told my son we should release those fish to catch a male. Then awhile later my son got a fish-on, the line was being pulled out by the fish. In my mind, I thought it was a 4-5 pound fish but after 10 minutes of him reeling it up OMG!?!?!!?@!@$#$%$#$ I've never seen such a humongous sheephead. Immediately I took the gap and hooked it up. WOWWW FREAKING BIG ASS!! I'm really proud of my son. The total types of fish we caught today is sheephead, calico, giant kelp fish, a perch and sand bass. What a superb day!

Here are the pics:

I cannot do it this weekend, me and my family are planning to go to Parker, Arizona fishing for stripers. Stay there 2 nights 3 days. I be back on Sunday. You guys should go out this weekend and enjoy the sheepheads because later on there will be no fishing at that area. Enjoy the moment while it lasts. Btw, I will post a report for you guys when I'm there.

Alan,

Watch your speed when you are driving to Parker. Lots of CHPs waiting to give tickets. Keep under 60 mph.

Where is this kelp at if I launch from Dana Point?

Jacky,

If you want to go let me know. I should be free Friday - Sunday.

Hi Tony! Thank you for your advice. I will drive safe. If you go with HS, he will show you where the kelp pad is.
