Fishing at Marina Del Rey

Postby alanhighhand » Sun Oct 23, 2011 10:23 pm

We all met up at 7:30 a.m. at Marina Del Rey, since it was so foggy we had to wait for it to clear a little bit. Until 8:00 a.m. we planned where to go and we decided to go fishing at Marina Del Rey Canyon. So we launched out at 8:15 a.m. went all the way there searching for the rocks. But when we got there we searched 3-4 miles and there were no rocks at all. Recording to HS map, they show that all the rocks are on the bottom but we couldn't find any. Since we couldn't find a rock we tried fishing at the spot and HS caught a couple of small sanddabs, Joseph caught a small halibut, around 12 inches, and me and my son caught nothing. We decided to head back to the shallow water and still nothing happened. Later, I went to another spot I saw a couple of boats fishing there, they caught some fish. I called HS and Joseph over, we fished this spot around an hour. We caught a whole bunch of mackerel at this spot. HS caught some sand bass, I caught one legal sheephead, my son caught one 10 inch calico, and Joseph caught mackerels. Even though we didn't catch the fish we wanted, we still had a great time joking around and laughing. Today's weather was really foggy, water temp=62 degrees, and smooth waves.

Here are some pics:
Joseph kept on thinking where are those sheepheads?

Sounds like a good trip. You might not of caught what you were after. But at least you got out and it wasn't a skunk. Sounds like a good day on the water. Looks foggy and gloomy in the pics. TFS!

I noticed a lot of fog lately...I was planning on going out tomorrow but hope there isn't too much fog. I guess worst case would be to wait it out also.

Tomorrow morning will have a lot of fog. Do you have a radio? If you do turn it on to 72 so we can keep in touch. Tomorrow I plan going fishing in the Kelp Bed at Dana Point.

Mike, bring shrimp!! And a paddle! That kelp is loaded with sheepheads.. And a lot of sandbass. Use a dropper loop and tie off to a kelp stringer and catch some fish!
