Freeport Community Launch by the Coast Guard Station

Has anyone launched out of the new'ish surfside launch next to the Coast Guard station lately? Some of the boaters on other blogs are complaining about how steep it is and silty but I can't imagine it would be tough to launch a ski there. I included a link to a google map that should pop up the sattelite image. It is the gravel area shaped like a "B" on the map. It sure looks like a great launch and quick access to the gulf or to some ditchs that I have fished in the past with a bay guide. We fished over by dow chemical a bit and caught lots of sand trout, flounder and some decent redfish anyway. I think I'm going to head down there this coming Saturday morning (sept 18th) to try my ski for salty fishing out there but was hoping that someone has launched there lately.

it doesn't look too bad from Google Earth view. i would watch the tide though so that you won't be coming in at low tide.. take some pictures of the ramp when you get there this saturday?

My "new" used galvanized trailer blew one of the dry-rotted tires Friday afternoon on the way from Lake Livingston where the ski is kept. I had to blow off this morning's trip due to technical (gear) difficulties  Oh well, that will give me another week to get everything checked and ready to roll. Besides all that, this wee little storm is giving us a bit of wind down there and I'm sure it would have ended up being a bummer first trip. I'm going to keep an eye on it and am considering a mid-week Wed morning trip instead. I'll take pics of the launch and some video to upload and link whenever I get out. Now if I can only figure out a good way to rig up a ton of lights on this thing for flounder gigging season! Ummmmmmm....door mats good!
