I just missed you by a week on this forum. I started looking for a Galveston/Freeport Jet Ski Fishing bud a few weeks ago but kept getting distracted with awesome video after video on youtube for PWC and jet ski fishing. Anyway, I fish out of my jet ski all the time on Lake Livingston for sand bass and catfish and have been down to the bays to fish out of my kayak but as far as Gulf fishing...I have only been out with guides (awesome way to learn IMO). I would be brand new to Jet Ski fishing on salt but HAVE TO DO IT SOON! My ski is an older 2002 Kawasaki 900STS 2 stroke but I just installed a new (reman) engine in it 15 hours or so ago so it has a new life. I also plugged off the oil injection with a kit that they sell and have gone to straight pre-mix to save myself a TON of worry and expense of yet another engine when one of the cylinders stops getting oil. Anyway, I am dying to get out on salt with this thing but, like you, want to take it easy and go near shore or jetty fishing first. I'll interested in eventually working my way out to a near rig but only with proper gear, prep, experience and at least one or two other skis as redundant emergency towing vessles. I live on the NW side of Houston near Belt8/290 and weekend up on Livingston. Where are you out of? Shoot me an email at houstonwarren2@yahoo.com so we can compare notes and hook up for some salt H2O fishing!

It's a lot of fun fishing in saltwater but there's a lot of elements to due with.. swell, rogue waves, wind, etc. make sure you guys have all the safety gear and try to buddy boat with someone for a few times. don't forget to post your catches!!

Thanks for the wise words! Lake Livingston is around 35 miles long by 7'ish miles wide...so I have used that as my training ground for the real show  I was an avid scubadiver back in the mid 90's and became a HUGE fan of redundant systems so I hear ya loud and clear on that note! For anyone out there thinking about a little Git-together to put some fare on the table...here is my gear list that I will be bringing:

1. 2002 900STS with 2010 100hp 2 stroke rebuild (16 gallon capacity)
2. Uniden MHS 350 VHF marine hand-held radio (reading up on this new gear now to learn it's capabilities)
3. Magellan Triton 1500 hand-held color/touch screen GPS (I do NOT have the sim card for fishing with this but want it for the Lat/Longs in case of emergency).
4. Common sense.

I'm interested in catching a mess of fish...not risking my life yet

It seems like there may be a few folks out there on this list from Houston and the surrounding areas who need a buddy-boat. Anyone off on non-conventional days like Tues, Wed or Thurs? I can fish Sat or Sun as well but would have to pull chalks by noon or 1pm at the latest to get to work on time.

The weekend of April 9th work for you? I'm good either day. I'd like to head out of Freeport so if its too chopy we can stay in the ship channel and hammer the drums and sheepheads.
