good casting reels that can be trolled/bottom

Found a gps for $200 instead of $400? Does Sport Chalet have a sale? Want to share a coupon? Post it here!

good casting reels that can be trolled/bottom

Postby Douby » Mon Jan 09, 2012 5:15 pm

What are some good reels that are good for trolling/ bottom fishing/ cast diving plugs or jiging?
Trying to limit my tackle out there and find a couple all around reels.

Was looking at possibly ambassador 10000? Just a thought.
Love avets. But just need something to handle at biggest big dolphin/60lb king mackeral/ possible tarpon.
And be able to bottom fish for the AJ's and grouper/snapper

Any thoughts is great.
Like to have a couple to chose from

Line around 30-50lb and hold over 350yrds. (don't mind having braid as a backing and a mono topshot) to hold more line.

i like the Daiwa saltiga series. i use the 30T (narrow spool) for casting irons and then pair it with my 20-50lb rod for bottom fishing. it's easy to cast and very durable. i have Avets and Accurates before. they are strong but for some reason I can't get used to the lever drag.

I am a lover of AVET reels, they have the SX and LX series with casting control, just like the bait casting reels, I would probably go with LX since it's a bigger reel if you are going to troll.

Then again, I grew up using only conventional and bait casters, so I can pretty much cast anything after a few tries, it's all in the thumb control.

I was looking at the new avet lx raptor. I think this is a extremely nice reel, and looks like you can land anything with 40lb of drag.
I landed a 380 sand tiger on a tiagra 16 (that's only 29lb of drag)

So these new raptors must be monsters!!

I have a Torsa 20 and love it, if you can get a deal on one then great. I got mine lightly used for $350 shipped, normally they retail over $700
