Halibut Rig

Anyone know something about this rig for halibut? I noticed a couple big fish being caught on it recently in SoCal waters:

It's the third tackle offer on the page: Complete bounceballing dodger rig with trap or J hook rigging

I know kayakers uses a ball bouncing rig all the time for halibuts. They use 1lb weight and drag it in 70ft of water. It's basically a dropper loop setup with lots of bling and terminal tackle.

I made 3 of them by using Luhr Jensen dogers and just using flourocarbon to make the rest. I have not caught a halibut on them yet. You have to maintain a consistent slow speed and direction or I have had trouble getting them twisted up.

You can buy a similar one at Basspro for approx. $20 or make them yourself for less than half that price.

I saw this Halibut rig selling at Savons. I think it costs about $38, at that time I almost bought it to use it on the tournament. But I never bought it. I asked the salesman, he said if you use it during the winter time it's much better because during the summer halibuts bite often and in the winter they aren't as active. That's why you should use it in the winter cause it attracts more. Future, I will try it out. ;)

I got one of these after seeing guide captain Dave Bacon swear by them when he fishing the Santa Barbra area, I tried it in my yak but didn't have any success because you have to keep a steady slow 2 mph and it was just too hard with my yak, and its 35 pounds of thrust electric motor. You have to always be holding the rod and bounce the weight every minute or two.
