how to instal u bolts on a jetski,

Postby jlai92 » Mon Aug 29, 2011 3:25 pm

Have a gti 130 and I'm trying to instal u bolts to it. I drilled the holes and all that came with the u bolt was 2 bolts and a metal bracket.

So here's what I did. I gooped the u bolt hammereed it into the hole I drilled. Put the bracket on the back, then some more goop, then added lock washers and nuts. When I was tightening it the u bolt sunk down to the very end and didn't stop.

Ill take some piics when I get home. But I did it on kinda a curved spot. Any sugestions on how to install them ?

Also I have the 2010 base model gti 130 so there's no reboarding step or u bolt on the back. I have nothing to strap the rack down to keep it from going up and down.

Need some insight. Looked in saltwater garage didn't find any info

 LMAO!

A U bolt is designed to compress a cylindrical object to a flat surface. If you want it to protrude, ie:not compress, then you need a stop on both sides of the hull. Put a nut and washer on both ends of the ubolt. Screw them all the way to the end of the threads THEN pass the unbolt through the hull. Put on the metal bracket and the 2 remaining nuts and washers.

alright, obviously i had no idea what i was doing..... litteraly not a clue....

but in the end everything worked out fine and the bolts are holding up for what i need them for... if they ( or when they ) come looose i will do the nut on both sides. thanks for the input.... pics of my rig will be added to saltwater garage.

Dude. You catch big fish. That's what matters.

Not sure where you are putting those ubolts but make them secure and watertight especially if they are below the water line. The nuts and washers should be stainless and large enough to completely cover the drilled holes. I would oversize the washers and put a rubber washer next to the hull on both sides.

None of this stuff is straightforward if you haven't done it before. I lost a fish last weekend because I didn't know how to tie the knot correctly... :x

If the purpose was to install a U bolt to have a tie off point. You need to install a nut and flat washer on the U Bolt then insert it and tighten from the back side this will give you a nice ring to attach a rope to, or depending on the strenth a strap for another purpose.
