How-To Install Fishfinder

Postby HawaiianShorts » Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:53 am

This is a how-to article for installing a Garmin 400c Fishfinder on a Sea-Doo RXT. Special thanks to master mechanic Jikser for his expertise.

Tools needed:
1. Jigsaw hand tool or Dremel diamond cutter
2. 3/4" hole puncher
3. Marine Goop
4. Devcon Plastic Welder Epoxy
5. Zip-ties
6. Ultra fine sand paper
7. Utility knife / blade

Step 1:
Remove the glove box compartment.

Step 2:
Remove lid.

Step 3:
Using a utility knife/ blade, outline the shape of the fishfinder on the backside of the lid with the fishfinder screen facing the lid.
Image

Step 4:
Using a jigsaw or dremel cutter, cut out the outlined shape. (Drill a insert hole first in the corner if you're using a jigsaw)
Image

Step 5:
Insert the fishfinder in the hole you've just cut, apply small amount of Marine Goop on both sides along the edges of the fishfinder
Image

Step 6:
Locate the destinated space on the port side of the craft, right below the exhaust hose.
Image
Sea-Doo's purposely created a flat spot in the hull for a depth finder option, also perfect for a fishfinder

Step 7:
Mix the Devcon Plastic Welder Epoxy.

Step 8:
Sand down the bottom of the transducer just a bit, enough to see scratches.

Step 9:
Apply the mixed epoxy evenly on the bottom of the transducer.
Image

Step 10:
Place the transducer in the destinated place, press and hold for 5 minutes.
Image

Step 11:
Drill a 3/4" hole on the side of the glove box. Run power and gps wires through it.
Image

Step 12:
Run both wires inside the hull. Connect transducer wire to the main unit.
Image

Step 13:
Pass all loose wires to the front of the jetski. Securely zip-tie wires to any near-by wires.
Image

Step 14:
Drill a 3/4" hole at the top corner of the front hatch box.
Image

Step 15:
Double check all connections. Power on the unit.

Finish product.

Estimated total time: 1 hour. 8-)

Hello, very nice set-up! Would this work on a 07 sea doo gtx and if so would the transducer mount be in the same place? What is the purpose of the hole in the front storage box?

Thanks

Not sure on the GTX, but check out the area next to the waterbox. Thr RXT had a spot specific for the transducer mount. We dicided to run a separate battery bank for auxilliary equipments such as FF and GPS. The main battery is not compromised.

GTX shouldn't be that much different than the RXT. If the GTX has a depth finder option, it's going to have a flat spot inside by the engine.

This is my combo unit in a 2009 kawasaki ultra lx. with the bigger glove box lid the unit fits prefectly, opens and closed still and i lose no storage space at all. the transducer hold the bottom at over 50 mile per hour.
