How to re-board with cooler rack in the way?

Postby shamrock Kid » Sun Oct 09, 2011 6:05 pm

Just wondering I have re-boarded plenty of times with out a cooler rack on the rear deck. Is it possible to board from the side with out the craft rolling over? Just curios not sure how its done and kinda want to get some input before I get in trouble. I did a search and read some of the older post and was just wondering if anybody ever figured this one out. I'm thinking about a rack that can be swiveled out on one corner. This would give access to the rear deck and grab handle. So who has had to re-board in the deep water? And am I waisting my time with another rack design?

Very good question. I recently went to the river and jumped down a few times to swim. Getting up was a pain without the steps on the back :). I couldn't imagine going on the side of the jet ski. I consider myself to be in great shape but it was a already a pain.

Maybe don' t ride so fast so you wouldn't fall off?

yes you can enter from the side... i do it alot lol. when im out playing on the ski and i fall off i just enter from the side. its failry stable and easily done in calm or rough conditions. the ski balances pretty well just throw a knee in the foot well and throw your arms over the side of the seat and pull up.... im 240lb 6ft tall and i can do it pretty easily.

worst case scenairio loose the gear and save your life.

That is a relief to hear. I have the same ski as you so it should be possible. Maybe I'll practice it close to the dock. I'm sure people will look at me funny but oh well. Yeah thought about worst case scenario and agree with you. Thanks for the help again.

it'd be the same as reboarding on a kayak. it's pretty hard to tip over the jetski anyway.. supposedly it takes 900lbs to flip it. but if you're gunning it while turning and lean on the turning side, get ready to get wet!

I can be easy to re lard from the side but it is definitely possible to flip the ski even for someone not so big. If you have a bait tank full of water it is even easier to flip. Fortunately, most pwcs tend to be easy to flip upright again.
I highly suggest that you practice boarding from the side with your rack mounted. It can be tricky especially in rough water and even harder if injured.

10-4 I was thinking about anchoring my ski in water just deep enough to try this. That way I will know for sure. Also learn how it reacts with gear loaded. Thanks

I have boarded many times from the side with the rack on the rear of my ski.
a few times on purpose, and quite a few times by accident.
a stirrup would be nice. just to give that little extra leverage. really gotta give a good boost and kick hard to get high enough to grab the handle bars. i keep thinking that I am going to tip the ski over.
I weigh about 225. dont need a ladder, but just a litte somethin to push off of ever so slightly would make a big difference
