Jetski fishing for Sanddab 10/18/11

Postby alanhighhand » Tue Oct 18, 2011 6:56 pm

Launching from Davies Ramp at 8:00 a.m. because of heavy traffic. Thirty minutes later, I arrived at my rockfish spot and tried to catch some fish there. Nothing happened except the waves were pretty rough and the sky was cloudy. The water temperature was 62 degrees and no red tides which is a good sign. After a while, I went to my 2nd spot for sanddab, once I dropped my squid they started to bite. I fished until 1:00 p.m. I also saw a couple of whales playing around.

Here's my video:

No, those are not flounders those are California sanddabs. They are good-eating fish.

Allan, you sure must have some patience to tie on all of those hooks.
My eyes would be shot by the 2nd or third one.
I dont want to rain on anyone's parade, especially Allan's, but, I think the fishing regulations limits the rigs to 2 hooks per line.
I remember years ago, rock cod gannons had something like 5 or 6 hooks. Not any more, only 2.
If i am mistaking, then good job. glad you caught alot of fish. Just dont want to see any one get into any trouble, especially while posting videos on a public forum.

Again, forgive me if i am wrong. Just lookin' out.

Hi Joe! Thank you for your concern, I appreciate your notice. When you fish sanddabs it is legal to have 10 hooks, you can buy it at any fishing tackle stores. Those 10 hooks are only for sanddabs, no other fish. For rockcod, its only two hooks. Don't worry I will never do anything illegal on fishing.Thank you again. Btw there are no limits to sanddabs. On January and February, during these couple months you aren't allowed to fish rockcods because it is there mating season so the charter boats would go out and fish for sanddabs with the 10 hooks.

I agree with joe. I would give up after tying just 2 hooks!

Just getting one tied on good is enough. I would go cross eyed trying to do ten. But that sure does look cool bringing up all those fish one after the other.
