May = Action!

I love the month of May here in Florida. This is my first season using the ski for fishing and I have to say it is working better than I thought it would. There are tarpon and big jacks off the beach and some cobia. I haven't ventured more than 1/2 mile or so off the beach yet but if I did there are kings, dolphin, etc. out there. May 10 ran into large schools of jacks. One in the 35-40 pound range almost spooled me and I had to chase it with the ski. I also landed a 30 pounder. The visual of seeing those schools coming toward you and sight casting to them is incredible. Some tarpon as well and I jumped one but they were tough. So cool to see them daisy chaining in the clear water.

I am so pleased with using the ski for fishing! It was an experiment in my mind but no more. It is my main machine. The only issue I've had is getting out of the St. Lucie Inlet on some days. It's a shallow inlet and the waves can really pile up. More than once I have turned around because I couldn't get out.

Take care guys and thanks for all your help!!

Great post. I am jealous too. Nothing like a pwc to experience fishing.

Waves? Did you say, "waves". Make them your friend. You have @200 horsepower and unmatched maneuverability. :D

Yea, I have to figure out the picture thing. How to catch fish and take pics at the same time. Since I release everything there is nothing to photograph at the dock.

As for waves....several weeks ago I was so hot to get out because of the fish I was hearing about. I launched in Jensen Beach drove around the corner toward the inlet and from a distance I could see waves breaking in the inlet. first clue. As I got closer I could see the police boat by the side of the inlet. second clue. I told myself I would just get a little closer and take a look. As I neared the rough water, I decided I could make it. The police boat was very close by then. As I committed and moved into the inlet, I went up a wave and the nose buried coming down and I took a full wave over the ski. Needless to say I got drenched. I just laughed and turned the boat around shaking the water out of my eyes. I heard laughter and cat calls coming from the police boat and I yelled to them "I guess not today huh!" They responded, "We were wondering how long it would take you to figure that out"
With my tail between my legs I went back into the river and decided that is where I would fish that morning. I am now a little more cautious about what conditions I try the inlet in.
Now I know I am a novice and there are probably techniques that would help me get out and back in. I just don't know that they are. Pretty funny though. LOL.

If we can do it you can do it too! All you need to do is hold the fish in one hand and the other hand hold your camera. You can use your cellphone camera instead of waterproof cameras. Sometimes when you catch a beautiful fish you won't be able to take a picture of it and have all these memories, its a waste. Good luck on your next trip! Remember! >:D
