Sup!!

Just picked up a used Yamaha VX110 and plan to rig for fishing. Got myself a igloo 100qt I plan to rig on the back. I'm thinking two pole holders at 45deg angles and three in the back for gaff, net, whipping pole, etc. Maybe two more holders on side. Plan to have extra compartment to put lure bag, etc. Gonna be made of 1" SS tubing and 2" SS for pole holders. A good friend of mine is taking care of the fab and welding.

Just got two 9/0s from Amazon. I bought both 60 and 80 line. I havent decided yet which to use. I'm leaning towards the 60 for capacity. For poles I'm gonna get stand up fighting poles with standard guides. No rollers because I'm thinking the line will come off at differnet angles while trolling and fights.

Picked up a Garmin 441s and I still have not figured out what transducer to use and how I'm gonna mount the unit itself. Hoping to take a peak in the garage soon to get some ideas.

Bought a handheld VHS radio but still on the fence on buying an epirb. I know it's the smart thing to do but i've already spent more than I planned and the extra 300 is hard to dish out already. Maybe later.

Any ideas or thoughts on what transducer to use and mounting garmin would be greatly apreciated. I'm thinking inside hull but if there is a big advantage to thru-hull, I may go that route.

Aonther thing I'm a little concerned with is the size of my cooler (filled with ice and hopeful fish). will straping the rig to the one mount behind seat and two at back of swim deck be enough? I want everything I do removable so I can use the ski for fun too, but I'm not totaly ruling out adding additional mounting points so long as they will be out of the way with rig removed. What do you think?

Wassup, I just got a jet ski too and was trying to find a rig for my poles. Do you think your friend would sell one?

I already ordered an in-hull transducer for my rig. I know a thru-hull or transom mount will work much better, but I would rather not drill the bottom or put screw holes in back if possible. I may still go with the thru-hull if I find the in-hull is not working well enough. Thanks for the advice though. I appreciate it.

I already informed my friend that he could prob make a few easy bucks if he wanted to make more of these cooler/pole holder set ups, but I don't think he's interested. I will ask him again when I pick up my waverunner from him.

100qt would be too big and heavy if strapped at the boarding deck greatly affecting the handling of the ski especially while turning. 42-60qt marine coolers ( depending on brand ) are more suitable. If you must use a 100qt due to the size of fish that hawaii puts out ( lucky!!), may i suggest you go ahead and strap a rescue sled directly behind you VX. Therefore you can hold a larger cooler. Im sure there are plenty of used sleds in da islands as they are used by many towsurfers.

Aloha I have a vx110 and I just mounted my transducer in hull it gets good readings up to 65 fathoms and at speeds way beyond trolling 45mph. And I would also not recommend using a 100 quart cooler to bulky. Use a 40 quart and just use. The triple rod holder at west marine for ur gaff, bat ,xtra pole then use A plywood with rid holders mounted on it and u bolt it to the back off the ski for ur trolling poles..use the cooler for ice and drinks food etc..and just have a sled with a fish bag..Pm me if u need more info aloha

Thanks for the advice. My transducer comes in tomorrow but my waverunners still at a friends place getting the cooler rack rigged. The more I think about it, the more I regret getting the 100qt cooler, but it's too late now. The racks halfway made and I can't ask my friend to start over. My mig is set up with straight c02 and I heard that to weld SS requires a 70% argon mix. I didn't want to spend the money on a new tank so I just asked my friend to do it. I talked to some people and they say it is ok to weld SS with straight c02 so now I am thinking of geting SS wire and dishing out the money for a pipe bender. That way I can play with different set ups untill I find the exact set up I like. I guess I could sell my expiriments here to offset the cost of the bender and matirials. We will see how it goes after I test out the 100qt set up.

I think you now hold the world title of the biggest bait tank/fish hold in the world! :)
