RESULTS for Jetski Sportfishing Tournament 8/14/2011

Postby HawaiianShorts » Sun Aug 14, 2011 8:58 pm

What a DAY!! We had a great turn out this morning at our first event. We had a total of 9 contestants ready for battle at the crack of dawn. The weather was very comfortable in the morning, flat calm seas, perfect for doing 50+ mph! Everyone hit their honey holes for the morning and it was decent fishing. There were sandbass, calico, halibut, lots of macs, and sheepheads being caught. Hobiefish (Duane) caught a 19" white seabass but unfortunately too small to keep. Mejorpain (Mike) had several hook ups tied up in the kelp. It broke him off due to light line. The ride back home at around noon was a bit rough but manageable. Almost everyone made it back on time for the weight-in.. Joe? :P But all in all, it was a great turn out and we will definitely host another tournament soon. What do you guys think the next one should be? Spottie tournament in Newport Harbor? :P

Here are the results:

1st Place - MejorPain (23" Halibut at 4.5lb)

2nd Place - Joseph (Sandbass at 3lb)

3rd Place - Alanhighhand (Sheephead at 2.5lb)

Lastly, I want to thank all of you (Alanhighhand, Hobiefish, MejorPain, Joseph, Carl, jctuckmar, Daryl, Rick) for coming out! Ducky and Kraig, nice meeting you guys! I hope you guys got some good ideas for your build after looking at the different setups. I hope you guys enjoy the freebies!

Here I would like to give a thank you for participating in this tournament. I'm happy that this tournament came out so successful but I think we can do better than this. Once again I would like to thank Hobie for sponsoring the t-shirts and for the people who showed up. For me, I was a little disappointed because it was delayed 30 mins, I know you guys like to show off your jetskis which is fine. But, try to cut it short some other fishermans were waiting outside, we should go out on time. I feel sorry for Joe didn't come back on time because the trophy could have been yours and Joseph having an accident falling down in the water from a boat passing by, luckily he got back up safely and got 2nd place. Check on video section.

Hi Hobie. You are welcome. Tomorrow me and my dad will head to Catalina so I can kick his butt in fishing. I was glad to be filming the tournament yesterday and thank you for being there plus the t-shirt. :D

NIce effort guys on the first tournament, it is a great way to meet new people and learn from others with a bit of competitive fun. My comp I now run twice a year in New Zealand, started with 40 entrants and now has up to 80! Keep up the good work, it will be worth it. Hopefully I see one of you over here for ours eventually...

When we build enough membership in all of the represented areas; NC San Diego, Orange County, LA, then we can more "local" tournaments.

I would love to host something in La JOLLA sometime soon, but I am not sure how many we could get to come down this far.
