Sanddabs in February

Postby HawaiianShorts » Sun Feb 05, 2012 5:42 pm

meet up with Tractng at Long Beach at 0800 this morning. Target species were sandbass and sculpin, then sanddab if fish aren't biting. Weather was so-so because of the offshore wind in the morning. Since it's Super Bowl time, hardly anyone was out there, only a handful of boats. It was slooowww when we tried the first spot. After about an hour or so and a few moves, we decided to fish for sanddabs. By now, the weather and sea have calmed down a bit, but still a little bumpy. After moving around trying to locate the fish, got a call from Tractng and the bite was ON! Double.. Triple.. as soon as the bait hits the bottom, WhAM!! We ended up with about 20+/- each to take home. Beautiful day overall!

Out of season for these but very good size

Very nice. What a waste having to release a rockfish.

Torpedo: Hi Torpedo. You got your jetski back. Are you sure you're ready to go out for fishing? Haha!

Joe: Hi Joe! I think HS will fillet the sanddabs like halibut because this guy has awesome filleting skills!
