Shallow water rockfish fishing at Avila Beach

Postby alanhighhand » Thu Aug 25, 2011 12:42 pm

School is coming soon one last trip for my kids for fishing. I decided to bring my children to party boat fishing for shallow water rockfish. On Tuesday afternoon, we arrived at Avila Beach at 4:30 p.m. check-in motel and have some fast food. Then, we went to Morro Bay for surf fishing, when we got there it was really foggy and not many people. So we started fishing suddenly my daughter caught one big barred perch and me and my son caught some.

This is the surf perch pic:

We went back to the motel, take a shower, and head out for dinner. The next morning, we wake up 4:30 a.m. buy some coffee then head out to Patriot Sportfishing check-in at 5:10 a.m. Wait until 6:00 a.m. for the boat to arrive also foggy that morning and took us 2 hours to the spot. First time ever for shallow water rockfish and lingcod, the water was between 50-90 ft deep. One of the best fishing trips I have this year, we used jigs, swim-baits, and live anchovies all bite. The whole boat had limits for the fish, too bad I couldn't catch a ling cod other than that everything is good. My kids liked it so we went home happy.

This is the pic that my daughter caught the big RED:

Just another successful fishing excursion for Alan...... It looks like we caught a lot of similar fish from the last time I was out! I also caught a perch that I cleaned and froze.

Is a perch much of a good eating fish? I've been told that it is a very bony fish.

Either way, every time I get back from a fishing excursion, I never have the strength to prepare the catch and always stop at a fast food joint due to the hunger pains alone!

I end up cleaning the fish at sea and placing them in the freezer when I get home. I disappoint myself. Gotta change that up! I need a woman in the home....One that's not fearful or grossed out to prepare my freshly caught fish! :!:
