South Jetties Galveston Texas

Postby Babaloo » Mon Jun 06, 2011 6:36 am

A buddy and I started out of Houston at 6:30am and drove the hour down to Galveston. We put the ski in at the Galveston marina, loaded up with a quart of live shrimp and headed to the south Jetties. The seas were calm. When we got there the boats were stacked deep. It was hard to find a spot to squeeze into. We finally found a spot and started casting shrimp. We snagged the rocks on the first few casts and drove up close to the rocks to see a school of good size Lady fish, I mean hundreds feeding on top water algee or something. WE COULDNT CATCH ONE!!!!  They would not go for the shrimp!! I didnt want to use the cast net to close to the rocks. We backed off and caught Sheep head all day and a few nasty slimmy Gaff tops.

It's a type of catfish called a Gaftop. Slimmy litte buggers. you know you have one on the line when you start reeling in and you have a layer of slim coming up the line.
