i didn't know Standard Horizon made fishfinders! unless you know how well they are, i would stay with the more popular brands like Garmin, Hummingbird, Lowrance, etc. it's not only that these brands are well known for fishfinders and chartplotting, but also the ease of finding support from others. i bet there's a bigger community using these brands than Standard Horizon. although, i have to say their radios are excellent! :)

I have never considered them but it actually looks good. I like the screen for side by side display; that quite frankly is the one glaring weakness of the Garmin 400 & 500 series units. The multidisplay leaves alot to be desired for fishfinder purposes. That is the only thing that I miss about the Raymarine that I had on my boat. I paid about $2k for the Raymarine and the Garmin 441s fishfinder works better in my opinion.

The 421s is a good unit if you choose Garmin, I purchased the 441s because of the coastal charts and then added a platinum chart card. I would have been smarter to save a $100 and buy the 421s if you are going to add a card. If you buy the Garmin, you can purchase the charts sd card off of ebay for about 30% of retail.

It looks like all of the Standard Horizon prices are w/o a transducer; if that is the case you need to add another $90-100 to the price for a dual freq. transducer.

ok im gonna play it safe and go with the garmin 421s and upgrade with the BlueChart g2 Vision card for the gulf coast....but i have a question...it does not come with the transducer and ebay has the "GARMIN TROLLING MOTOR TRANSDUCER FOR GPSMAP 420S 421S"...is this the same as a dual frequency transducer?
