trying to choose a new ski...

Postby jlai92 » Mon Jan 16, 2012 7:36 pm

yup plan on getting a second one this spring, but problem is i cant choose !!! im looking at sea doo's hands down....

wake 155.- 11,299$
gtx 155. - 11,999$
wake 215. - 13,499$
gtr 215. - 11,499$

i like the wake 155 cause of the storage and its a bit cheaper than the gtx 155, but doesnt come with s3 hull. 30 gallons of storage
i like the gtx 155 because its luxury, has s3 hull, but only has 13.galons of storage
i like the wake 215 cause its super charged, and easy access to the battery, and s3 hull. but the storage is 13 gallons
i like the gtr 215 cause its super charged, 30 gallons of storage. no s3 hull. and its cheaper than gtx 155

questions, those who have the sea doo 215 hp... is it worth the bad gas mileage for that extra power when you go play? and is it reliable? how long can you go before your out of gas ???

sugestions ???

I was also loooking at the gtx or gtr. I would go with a gtx because of the supercharger. I'm looking for distance rather than power. But if you are looking for a play jetski, get the gtr! It's got the same engine as my rxt and all the electronics!

My rxt gets about 80-90miles cruising at 40mph on flat calm seas.

80-90 miles sounds good enough to me ! do you pump 91+ octane though ?

yup 91 octane.. in rough seas, though, you'd get about 60-70 miles on a full tank. on the other hand, the gtx 155 should get about 90-100 in rough seas and probably 100-110 just cruising.

#1 question you have to ask yourself is what will this ski be primarily used for... If speed is not that important, I would get a non-supercharged model.

There's only about a 5-7 mph top speed difference between supercharged and non-supercharged skis and a whole lot of gas consumption.

Wish I could help you out but I haven't been on any of those ski's. But just to add my .02 the S3 hull worries me. More moving parts means more can go wrong or more maintenance. But I do think its freaking cool and would like to test drive one. I have been looking at the wake 155. But on the other hand having the horse power to play around when your not fishing would be cool too. I know not fishing "what you talking about Willies" if I'm not working then I'm fishing. But on days that the wind is to rough to fish at least you can ride some waves. 8-)

Find out what the maintenance cost is to do the 100 hour service on that supercharger, If you don't do it and something happens supercharger related, your warranty will be voided. Just because something is initially a good deal, doesn't mean it will always be a good deal.

FtLaud is right on the money. My ski is modified with bigger supercharger so it requires quite a bit babying. For me the supercharger is worth the extra maintenance because I use my ski as primarily a play ski

For sure I would try to get the S3 hull since its much better at handling rough water than the old hull if I were you.

Exactly, I couldn't just have a non-supercharged ski at this point, but I do want a Yamaha FX140 to turn into a dedicated fishing ski so my FZR doesn't rack up hours trolling at 10mph. LOL
