Yea.. might be expensive as hell... but it is nice to see other ideas... it looks like it's got its pro's and cons. It would be nice to see a purpose built fishing ski from the manufacturers (hint hint)...
even kayaks took a while too, for the manufacturers to start designing for us. Hope the ski's come around soon.

Meanwhile, we gotta burn the midnight oil in our garages...

This unit is a great unit for fishing - no I don't have one yet as need to catch some fish to justify the outlay.

This was designed for NZ conditions which at best are very changeable and is designed to stay on over waves etc as has been demonstrated recently it stays on even when the driver gets flipped off hitting a big swell off a ferry.
The guy who designed it made multiple upgrades till he came to this design that was easy to put on and off the ski (1 minute) stayed on in rough weather, and was not susceptiple to corrosion (polished stainless steel frame with an off the shelf chilly bin).
For those with more dedicated needs this may be a bit small but for those who fish as part of their use of their PWC then ideal.
The price here in NZ is NZ$850 which is about US$500 but for those who just want to fish and can't be bothered rigging something them self, it is ideal.

Have a look at the site and see what he has done with it : www.jetskifishing.co.nz

The ultimate rod holder is a good piece of gear for a waterman. $800 is probably a reflection of how its made. Most of us will probably take a few seasons to perfect how we fish off of our watercraft. Man I am thinking about this day and night. How do you make a starter kit for a guy that wants enough capability on his watercraft with the least outlay of cash. How do you make one to fit different brands of watercraft? What is the right amount of water capacity for your bait well. More water more bait--more weight. Its all a balance. Instead of just referring guys to the Garage section, lets have a better disscussion on what makes the right bait tank, cooler, rod holder configuration.

I learn everytime I take my Honda Aquatrax out. My check list keeps on getting better and better [and bigger and bigger]. We may find some of the design features of the Ultimate Rod Holder have some characteristics that might be necessary.

I have found that one of my priorities is have the ability to jet real fast to a spot. In the process of going fast it gets bumpy. My first rack is made of tube aluminum; bent and welded. It is secured by metal marine quality straps, not rachet straps made of nylon. I have found a 750 GPH bait pump the right fit for me. I will jet to a spot, put the chum line out, and make a few pieces of bait and want my bait tank to fill quickly. I will fish the spot and move on.

The other thing that I have learned is that I don't need a ton of pole holders. I first started out bringing everything in the Garage just in case.... Now I go jetski fishing with a purpose and my rack reflects that. I only bring two poles and the right mix of terminal tackle for the targeted species.

Go fishing alot before you commit to building your first rack. Figure out how you fish and build to suit.

Anyway I thought I would bump this thread again and add some discussion.

aquaman... great tips!

so far i still take along 3-4 rods... (sabiki, jig stick, live bait, and a heavy jig or troller)... then a gaff or a net just in case (wishful thinkin)...
I still havent setup my live bait tank, so its cut bait, or just lures for me at the moment.
I'm still stuck on the 1.5" white PVC pipes.. but that seems sturdy enough for me, and the nylon ratchet straps too. It's not fancy stainless or alum, but
it currently gets the job done. Cheap, and so far hasnt failed ever... but then again, i probably dont have anywhere near the hrs on the ski as you do...

What's also good is a good, waterproof GPS w/ reef spots or nice drop off/structures marked. That's my fish finding secret.

Tight lines bro~

Hi Crew, I the manufacturer of the "Ultimate Rod Holder" kits in New Zealand. Interesting reading about my product, as we say in New Zealand, you get what you pay for. The kit is fully complete with everything required to fit within 1 minute, it is electropolished having an impressive finish and is proven to handle riding fully rigged in the worst conditions. The estmated prices here are a little excessive on here, the true costing in US dollars is $580 per kit, some people like doing it once and doing it right, so if you do the Ultimate Rod Holder is the kit for you.
If anyone is wanting to go the next level, feel free tom email me andrew@jetskifishing.co.nz otherwise good luck with the DIY kits.
Remember its all about having fun on the water, great site.

Cheers, Andrew

P.S. I will add some of my videos for you guys once I have access.
