Hi Greenbomber,
This is only my third post but have been ski fishing for a while, I had a wave runner setup, with a good rack on the back for esky and rods, I put bait ice and drinks in the esky, drink bottle gets a bit wiffy after a while, I setup a small tool kit ( spark plugs, spare hose clamps tape), small first aid,V sheet keep that under the main seat, clothes , wetsuit and food in the front, under the back seat a waterproof grab bag with gps radio, flares and epirb, Always take lots of water and sun cream.
I always take pretty well everything on each trip, havent used the rescue stuff yet but I figure if I dont have it I will need it, on big solo trips out to sea I tow a rescue sled behind sort of my lifeboat, makes me feel a bit safer.
Thats what I take.P

Would have thought this would have a LOT more responses. Before I got a jetski, used to take my 19' Whaler 65 miles (each way) to the gulf stream. People told me I was crazy! With a little bit of knowledge, a good weather forecast and the right attitude as well as ALL the right safety gear, no problem. So far, I've only been about a mile off the beach trolling with a cooler bungeed to the back to see if this was for me, but fishing from a jetski is about as close to the water as you can get(gas powered anyway) and has an incredible feeling of freedom from the "boat". Been working on my list of gear to take every time no matter how far I go; what do you guys take.

One of my biggest questions is the extra battery. Seems like an awful lot of extra weight? Got a battery powered Garmin GPS handheld mounted up front next to a Garmin fishfinder(only item running off battery) and planning on getting a handheld DSC VHF radio(batteries again). Do the charging systems on jetskis put out enough to run just a fishfinder? I've got a '09 FX HO.

Anybody got their "list" they want to share?

Best thing to bring is a "buddy". Much safer with 2 of you, 3 is even better. Normally for gear I bring 3-4 plano boxes with whatever ill need for that days catch. Always bring a knife, dehooker, pliers and a spare vest (u never know). In the cooler is usually ice and 4-6 bottles of water. Where we are, you are nomally within sight of land, dont need to venture too far. All the normal safety stuff is onboard too, fire extiguisher, first aid kit, tow rope, gloves, flares, and a dry bag for the cell phone and wallet. U can never be too safe....
I Want a woman thats like my jetski....Fast, Wet, and fun to ride!!!!!!

I run a second battery for fish finder only. It's a 12v 6amp sealed battery from frys and it works great. Also, I run a third battery for the bait tank in case I have live bait. The only down size is that I'd have to charge both batteries before every trip. Also, when the power runs out, no more fish finder. I only fish about 4-5 hours on average and the batteries have never died. You could install an automatic charge relay with a second atv battery to run the electronics. Look up the garage section for a thread on the install. Hobiefish has installed one and it works great. I'd highly recommend installing a second battery because you want the main one dedicated for the engine. If the main runs out of power, you are dead in the water.

Besides the 2 batteries, I have a handheld garmin gps that uses AA and a handheld radio on my life jacket. I think there's a thread on safety equipment in the garage section.

Since I mainly troll, inside my cooler you will find 20lbs of ice, a bucket holding my drinks with ice in it (Don't like mixing my drinks with fish slime), on the cooler, are my 4 rod holders, 2 fishing rods, a gaff, a de-hooker, a knife, pliers, and a rag to wipe my hands with.

In the center storage of my ski I'll have my GPS, bag of skirts, planer, 2 waterproof bags holding my license, credit card, cash, ski registration, insurance card, cellphone, car keys, camera.

The front compartment has my SavePhace mask in it's protective bag, 2 ropes, and a backpack with a tackle box that has all the other tackle like hooks, weights, jigging lures, etc.

I think I got all that..

KOS, you fit all that on your ski or you towing a trailer?!

Honestly, I like the attention to detail; fishing the coast in NC is either the waterway or the open ocean, not much inbetween. Pays to have everything you need and might need just in case.
