I went out again yesterday trying to get some cats. Was in the same cove that some of the lakes records were pulled out of. I found a spot where the bottom transition from 5 feet to 25 feet rapidly. Was using live minnows fishing at the bottom and also at the top with a bobbed and about 3 feet of line. I got one too small bass from the bottom and two gar from the top. Any suggestions? I was thinking about trying chicken liver next time.

I use strips of cured mackerel.. get some mackerel from the market, put it in a plastic container and pour some sea salt on it. it will dry out the flesh so that you can put it on a hook firmly.

I have used raw chicken!!

catfish basically eats anything stinky.. if you watch Hillbilly Handfishing on tv recently, these guys stick their foots in the holes looking for a bite!!

I was raised catfish fishing, they will eat anything stinky. I've had great luck with liver but it is soft and tends to come off the hook easily same goes for stink bait. Hotdogs work well and I just started killing them using anchovies this past weekend. I had a 1/2 ounce weight about 18" above my hook, dropped it to the bottom in about 60' and realed up about two feet. The weight kept the line tight and the anchovie was just foating there waiting for Mr. Wiskers to come along. I cought maybe 8 anywhere from a pound to a three and a half pounder, what a blast.

you may want to understand what species of catfish you would like to target then go from there.

flatheads, tend to like live bait.

Channel- chicken liver/oily fish/worms

Blue-Mackerel

White- same as channel

I use Mackerel, anchovies, Hot Dogs, nightcrawlers, shrimp, chicken liver, meal worms, crawfish tail...Of course best early in the morning or late at night.
