What is the best ski???

Postby johnnyblaze2009 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 9:55 pm

I have ridden plenty of different jet skis for fun, but in the fishing "world" what is the ideal ski for fishing? I have friends who love kayak fishing and they are all trying to upgrade from what they have to Hobie Pro Anglers, is that the same for jet skis? I am wondering more for adding accessories, storage, electronics, appearance and reliability.... and of course what retains market resale value. Thanks guys for ur .02 cents.

it's a hard question because it's the same as "what is the best car?" as a general rule, regular engines (no turbos or superchargers) are more reliable and gets better mileage. so it comes down to what and where you are planning to do with the jetski. are you planning to dedicate the jetski for fishing? or do you plan on jumping waves and go fast? if speed is what you are after, go for supercharged models like the Yamaha FX SHO or Seadoo RXT/GTR. these are FAST and POWERFUL! otherwise, go with regular models like the Yamaha FX HO or Seadoo GTX.

hope this helps!

Finally got something to work with. Engine is disassembled and out at the machine shop, new parts are on the way. Total, I have $900.00 in it. Assembly in the next few days, install and work out the bugs. Run through the pump and bearings, new wear ring and I should be ready!!!!!!!!!!! Only thing I found wrong with the engine, looked like it got salt water in #2 cylinder. Looked like salt, tasted like salt, I think it's SALT. Didn't hurt the cylinder wall, but having it honed anyway. Everything else looked showroom new inside. And God Bless this man, he had all the parts, not one single bolt is missing!!! I usually don't have that kinda luck!!!

I plan on letting everyone know when I am ready to hit the water! Found a couple more items that need attention. The biggest one is the head. After cleaning it up and pulling the cams and the valves, found some really deep "pits" in the cylinder head. Could be corrosion but, feel more like it is from detonation. Anyway, pits are toooooo deep to take a chance with, ordered a new head from SBT in Florida with new cams, valves, seats, guides, etc....... I just feel a little more confident in having a new head instead of spending the time and effort for a head that's a "maybe"!!!! Dependability is Paramount!!!!
I am still moving a little slow. Doing all of this with one arm. Other arm is still in a sling from shoulder surgery, but I do have my 14 year old son doing some of the labor. Helps him to learn something that will actually help him in life, and gets to spend some quality time with Dad in the garage instead of wasting brain cells on video games!
