Where range and fuel costs are most important, then avoid turbos and superchargers.

That said, the supercharger is the best thing to ever happen to the 4-stroke pwc motor. Faster is always better!!! Also, the low-end acceleration will make choppy conditions extremely fun to ride. Last, a supercharger will get you to your next fishing spot faster.

Of course, they require more maintenance and cost more as well.

You and Joe always gotta drive fast; Alan, Jacky, & I are the last ones there! Why does Jacky's ski not go faster because he has a supercharger?

Mike: Thanks for the reply, I've never owned a ski before so just trying to figure out what is a good match for me, I found a link on the site to a boattest.com review for both the yamaha ho and sho and I can't see why anyone would want a supercharger (this coming from a guy that drove a top fuel dragster at 300 mph). This review shows the sho top speed at 66.3mph burning 18.6 gallons/hr and the ho top speed at 63.3 burning 13.8 now i realize that your not going to spend most of your time at full throttle but the cruise speeds where a huge difference sho at 20.2mph getting 5.77 miles/gallon vs the ho at 45.4 mph getting 6.17 miles/gallon. Can you enlighten me as to why the supercharger is the best thing to happen to pwc (and I'm not trying to be a smart ass) I would love to have a hot rod but what are the real gains? Anyone else want to drop an opinion about a 08 or newer yamaha ho I want to set up a ski to fish out of boston harbor where i have a 36' tiara that is often times to much of a pain in the ass (plus to expensive) to take out just to catch a few strippers or pull a lobster pot. So my idea is to use the boat as a mother ship so to speak and have the ski somehow mounted on the swim platform or docked next to the boat to take out when I otherwise would not take out the big boat. Thanks for the help guys this site has been a real learning adventure for me.

i have the supercharged RXT and i rarely use it. i'm a comfort rider with an occasional need for speed (only when it's flat calm waters). with the supercharger, it's nice to know that i can hit top speed quick and feel it kicking in. but as for practicality, i'd be much happier with a regular engine to go the distance. since i'm still working on finding my own honey holes and fishing spots, i need to cover a lot of area. going the distance on 1 tank is quite important especially if i want to fish the islands (usually about 25 miles 1 way). the advantage of a supercharger is really for high speeds and quick bursts. you can still hit 50+ mph, which is fast enough, on a non-supercharged engine. so it really comes down to your preference for speed versus distance.

@Hobie: i don't ride fast like Joe and Mike because i have too many fishes to carry! :P
